Our Introduction to Fibre Optics (ITFO) training day is designed to support both professionals and newcomers in developing a strong foundation in fibre optic communications. Delivered at our Chessington head office, this free one-day course combines classroom learning with practical workshops to help attendees understand the basics of fibre transmission, installation, testing, and equipment selection.

Morning session
Introduction to fibre optic theory
This session provides a comprehensive overview of fibre optic technology, from its origins to modern testing methods such as OTDR. It offers a top-level understanding of the essential knowledge required for anyone looking to become a fibre optics installer.
Afternoon session
Fusion splicer practical demonstration
This is a hands-on session showcasing both core alignment and active cladding alignment splicer machines. Participants will gain practical experience and insights into the splicing process.
Test and inspection equipment practical demonstration
This interactive session covers the four key levels of fibre optic testing. It focuses on visible light testing, light source and power meter usage, connector inspection, and OTDR testing, providing participants with practical skills and understanding of essential inspection tools.
