We have secured a seat on the board of directors for the Japan Fusion Energy Council (J-Fusion), demonstrating our commitment to this revolutionary technology. Fusion energy is considered a safer alternative to conventional nuclear power.

What is J-Fusion?

This new council, chaired by Kyoto Fusioneering, unites over 40 Japanese companies across diverse industries, universities, research institutes, public institutions, and government organisations. It marks the first time Japanese industrial players have publicly and collectively announced their participation in the fusion energy industry.

J-Fusion aims to leverage Japan’s robust manufacturing supply chain and enabling technologies to build a domestic fusion energy industry and advocate for it globally.

Fusion Energy: Promising Yet Challenging

While fusion energy holds immense potential, achieving sustained fusion reactions on Earth presents significant challenges. The process requires incredibly high temperatures, reaching millions of degrees Celsius to overcome the natural repulsion between atomic nuclei and force them to fuse. Confining this plasma within a container for a long enough duration to achieve a net energy gain remains a significant hurdle.

Despite these challenges, Fujikura’s involvement and the collective effort of Japanese industries signal a strong push towards realising the potential of fusion energy. This collaboration could pave the way for a future powered by clean, safe, and virtually limitless energy.
