Fujikura Ltd. is pleased to announce the completion and commencement of operations at its new plant located at the Sakura Works in Sakura City, Chiba Prefecture. This facility will produce the innovative 12 core intermittent fixed-type optical fibre ribbon, known as SpiderWeb Ribbon™ (SWR™), which is designed for use in Fujikura’s proprietary thin and high-density optical fibre cable, the Wrapping Tube Cable™ (WTC™).

This new plant is expected to increase SWR™ production volume by approximately 30%, addressing the rising global demand for high-capacity, high-speed communication driven by digitalisation and the growth of data centres. An opening ceremony was held on February 17 to commemorate the initiative.
The establishment of the new plant comes in response to the rapid increase in data traffic fuelled by the continued deployment of advanced technologies in every area of our lives. As demand for high-capacity, high-speed communication and low-latency communication continues to rise globally, especially with the continuous development of optical broadband and data centres, Fujikura is strategically positioned to address this surging need.
An opening ceremony was held at the Sakura Works on the 17th of February to mark this significant milestone in Fujikura’s operations.

The plant features advanced in-house manufacturing equipment and embraces digital transformation (DX) to enhance productivity and quality. These advancements not only strengthen Fujikura’s production capacity to meet increased demand but also enhance its cost competitiveness for future challenges.
In alignment with its commitment to sustainability, Fujikura plans to actively implement green transformation (GX) technologies within the new facility, aiming for carbon neutrality—a pioneering initiative for the company.
Fujikura is committed to contributing to an advanced information society through this new facility.
